Nordic Moods & Baroque Echoes

This recording is a collaboration between Duo Langborn/Wendel & The Marais Project. It is a blend baroque music, original compositions and arrangements, as well as folk music from both Australia and Sweden.

Much of the repertoire for the album was arranged or composed specifically for our unique instrumentation: voice/violin, violin, viola da gamba, cimbalom, and guitar/theorbo.

This album continues The Marais Project's philosophy of recording. The repertoire is diverse and engaging, lovingly performed by its unique instrumentation of voice/violin, baroque/modern violin, cimbalom, theorbo/lute and viola da gamba. The cimbalom is rare in classical music, so don’t miss the chance to hear the amazing sound of Olof’s concert cimbalom.

Artists

The Marais Project

If you love interesting, out of the way music and relaxed, concert settings you will love The Marais Project! Jennifer Eriksson originally founded the group in 2000 to perform the complete works of Marin Marais an 18th century genius of my instrument, the viola da gamba. Over the years our repertoire has greatly expanded and now includes a huge range of wonderful vocal and instrumental music for the viola da gamba from the 1300s to the present day. They also commission and arrange new music for the ensemble.

Press quote

“... fascinating collaboration of violin, viola da gamba, guitar, theorbo and cimbalom, to produce a range of tonal colours which must surely be unique. Each of the 15 tracks on the disc has its own distinct flavour although best listened to a few tracks at a time. Listening to all in one sitting is akin to eating an entire feast on one’s own. Best shared a course at a time with others.” ★★★★
