George Golla

George Golla's jazz guitar, electric and acoustic, has threaded through Australian small-group sessions for decades, from long work with Don Burrows to John Sangster's Tolkien suites and film scores.

On Sangster's Landscapes of Middle Earth he shares the guitar chair in music that maps Tolkien country through vibraphone, flutes and swinging rhythm. Fluteman places him again in a jazz nonet built around Burrows' flutes, colouring cues that stand alone as listening. Much of his recorded work sits inside the ensemble rather than out front, including Latin American-influenced jazz and frequent duo and quartet settings with Burrows. He has also written guitar books on theory, scales and the modes.

Fluteman

John Sangster wrote the score for the little-known 1982 Australian film Fluteman. Led by Don Burrows on flute, with eight other jazz players, the music makes wonderful listening quite apart from the picture.
