Volume 2 in this series of stunning performances by Christopher Dearnley and John Stiller on seven more of the historic church organs of the Barossa Valley.
A tour of South Australia's famous Barossa Valley would usually evoke images of leafy vineyards and dark and cavernous cellars, however Move Records have put together a tour of another kind. Together with Volume 1 (available separately), "Historic Organs" records the historic Lutheran organs in the region. Christopher Dearnley, one of the world's leading organists (St. Paul's Cathedral, London 1968-1990), and John Stiller, combine to provide valuable and unique renditions of popular and rare organ repertoire on these magnificent instruments.
Volume 2 features works by Bach, Mendelssohn, Wesley, Pachelbel and Hummel and a number of unique and fascinating pieces by less well-known composers. Dearnley also contributes a fanfare written for the St. Paul's Cathedral in London and an unexpected yet beautiful arrangement of the much-loved jazz standard, 'Misty'.
Accompanying booklets outline the history of the organs, their builders and the music.
Artists
John Stiller
After years of study and performing overseas John Stiller was employed by the newly formed Organ Historical Trust of Australia as Research Officer and in 1986 he was appointed as director of music at St Petri Lutheran Church Nuriootpa. He has given many recitals and performed for the Barossa Music Festival in 1990 and 1994.
Christopher Dearnley
The late Christopher Dearnley established a world-wide reputation as an outstanding organist and leading church musician through many recordings and solo performances.

Marco Enrico Bossi
Marco Enrico Bossi was an Italian organist, composer, improviser and pedagogue. Bossi was born in Salò, a town in the province of Brescia, Lombardy, into a family of musicians.
Johann Sebastian Bach
Johann Sebastian Bach was a German composer, organist, harpsichordist, violist, and violinist whose sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra, and solo instruments drew together the strands of the Baroque period and brought it to its ultimate maturity.
Louis Couperin
Louis Couperin (c. 1626 – 29 August 1661) was a French Baroque composer and performer. None of Couperin's music was published during his lifetime, but manuscript copies of some 200 pieces survive, some of them only rediscovered in the mid-20th century.
Felix Mendelssohn
Jakob Ludwig Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809–1847) was a German composer, pianist, organist and conductor of the early Romantic period. Mendelssohn's work includes symphonies, concerti, oratorios, piano music and chamber music.
Johann Pachelbel
Johann Pachelbel was a German Baroque composer, organist and teacher, who brought the south German organ tradition to its peak. He composed a large body of sacred and secular music, and his contributions to the development of the chorale prelude and fugue have earned him a place among the most important composers of the middle Baroque era.
June Nixon
One of Australia's best known organists, choir trainers and composers, June Nixon initially obtained Diploma of Music (piano) and Bachelor of Music (organ) from Melbourne University.
Johannes Brahms
Johannes Brahms (1833–1897) was a German composer and pianist, and one of the leading musicians of the Romantic period. In his lifetime, Brahms' popularity and influence were considerable; he is sometimes grouped with Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven as one of the Three Bs.
